How to Cash in Visa Points

The Visa Extras program lets you earn rewards for the shopping you would probably do anyway. Once you have enrolled in the program, you begin to accumulate points every time you make a qualifying purchase with your linked accounts. You can redeem these points for a variety of products, services and gift cards. To take advantage of this perk, you have to cash in your Visa points before they expire.

Step 7

Review your information to make sure it's correct and click "Place my order."

Step 8

Check your e-mail to make sure you received your confirmation number before navigating away from the confirmation page.

Tip

The dollar value of your points varies depending on the item you choose. A $50 gift certificate to one store may cost more points than a $50 gift certificate to another.

Visa Extras categorizes the cash value awards under “Gift Certificates and Cards.”

Link all of your Visa bank and credit accounts to the same Visa points account to let your points accumulate more quickly.

When using your Visa card to purchase items, select “credit” rather than “debit.” Credit transactions qualify for points.

According to the Visa Extras web site, points can take 1 to 2 weeks to show up in your account. In certain situations, they can take longer.

Warning

Remember to log-out after redeeming your points if you're on a public computer.

Visa points expire after 36 months (see reference 1).
