There are numerous companies on the Internet that allow you to use your debit card for sending money within the country or even abroad. Companies such as PayPal and Alert Pay let you send money online to the recipient's email address while Western Union sends money directly to the recipient's bank account.
Using PayPal or Alert Pay
Decide which company you will use for transferring money. Both Alert Pay and PayPal accept Visa, MasterCard and AMEX, but the fees are slightly different.
PayPal charges 2.9 percent + $0.30 USD (as of 2010), and the sender can decide whether he or the recipient pays the fee. Additionally, PayPal charges additional fees for cross border transactions and currency conversions, so you can calculate the total fee by using the "fee calculator" tool of PayPal (See Resources).
Alert Pay doesn't charge to send money. However, the recipient is charged 2.5 percent + $0.25 USD (as of 2010). If the recipient receives the funds on a credit card, it will cost 4.9 percent + $0.25 USD. For international transfers, Alert Pay costs an additional fee of 2.5 percent.
