Many people mistakenly assume that they need a credit card to qualify for a PayPal account. Having a credit card does allow you to verify your account faster. A credit card will also allow you more payment options when using PayPal to pay for your online purchases. However, it is not required that you have a credit card to obtain a PayPal account.

Step 1

Click on "Sign Up" on the main page of the PayPal website. The link appears on the upper right side of the page.

Step 2

Enter your personal information, including your name, address, email address and telephone number. Be sure all of this information is entered correctly and then click "Submit."

Step 3

Click on the "Continue" button underneath the words "Pay with my bank account."

Step 4

Enter your bank name, check the appropriate radio button for your account type and enter your routing and account numbers.

Step 5

Check your next bank statement for two deposits made to your account by PayPal. Alternately, if you have access to your bank account online, you can get the deposit amounts from your bank website.

Step 6

Confirm your bank account by clicking the "Confirm your account" link on your main PayPal account page and entering your two deposit amounts.
