Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are made to qualifying disabled and elderly individuals based on account setup. Payments are sent by check through the mail or by direct deposit to your bank account. If your payment is late, Social Security will replace the funds after a short waiting period. The length of time for the wait variesy based on how your payment is dispersed.

Step 1

Contact Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 and notify an agent that your payment hasn't been received. If your payments are sent by mail, you must wait three days after the date you normally receive your check to contact Social Security. Missing payments made by direct deposit should be reported immediately. SSI payments are generally received on the first day of the month unless that day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, in which case payment will be received the previous banking day.

Step 2

Provide the agent with your name and Social Security number for account verification As of June 2011, Social Security can be contacted Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

Step 3

Verify your address for payments by check or your bank account for direct deposit. The agent will complete a missing payment form and submit the form to the Department of Treasury. After verifying that the payment hasn't been cashed, a new payment will be issued.
