RCI does not buy back timeshares, so the burden of selling your unwanted unit falls largely on you. Selling an RCI timeshare can be an arduous process. Because potential buyers are often not aware that timeshares are available for resale, selling one can be time-consuming. There are also many agencies that claim to resell timeshares, but are frequently a scam, or cost more money than they are worth.

Determine Your Asking Price

Research the asking prices of timeshare resales similar to yours. Craigslist, eBay and other online classified services often have timeshares for sale. Most resold timeshares will go below RCI's market price to encourage sale. Based on your research of other timeshare sales, set a competitive price to draw interest to your resort, that will also allow wiggle room for counter offers.

Write Your Classified Advertisement

Be sure to include pertinent information such as the dates of timeshare, annual fees, location, square footage, number of bedrooms, resort amenities, asking price, and your contact information. Include photographs of the rental space and resort to entice potential buyers.

Post Classified Advertisements

Contact your RCI resort about ideas where to post your classified advertisement. Most resorts offer listing services in-house. Additionally, consider posting on Craigslist, eBay and other listing sites that offer free or low-cost posting services, which may require credit card payment. There are also a number of sites specifically designed for reselling timeshares, such as SellMyTimeshareNow.com.

Be Wary of Potential Scams

Posting listings online can invite fraudulent offers from scam artists. Be skeptical of any e-mails or phone calls you receive that seem too good to be true. They often are. Never pay money up front to an interested party in exchange for an above-offer money order or cashier's check.

Practice Good Communication

Be flexible and honest with interested parties. When you are contracted by potential buyers, provide them with all pertinent information as quickly as possible. Be open to low offers, and don't be afraid to counter offer.

Prepare the Paperwork

Once you've settled on a price for your RCI timeshare, you need to draw up the appropriate paperwork to ensure a legal sale. While it is not necessary to seek the council of a lawyer to sell your timeshare, it can be helpful to protect your rights. If the cost of a lawyer is too much for the sale, timeshare sale contracts are available online for a nominal fee at various websites, including www.timesharetransfer.com.
