Trawling through lists of stock market constituents to determine how your portfolio is performing can be frustrating and time-consuming. If only there were a service that would let you monitor only the stocks you were interested in. Fortunately for you, there is. Yahoo Finance allows you to access information about the shares you hold at the click of a mouse. It's easy to set up and simple to use.
Navigate to Yahoo Finance (see Resources for a link) and click on "New User?, Register."
Enter your personal details, set up a Yahoo account and enter the onscreen CAPTCHA code to prove you're human.
Sign into your email account and verify your email address by clicking on the link in the message Yahoo sent you. Then click "Continue" to go to Yahoo Finance.
Hover over "My Portfolios" and click on "Create Portfolio."
Enter your portfolio's name in the "Portfolio Name" box and then enter the stocks you want to track in the "Manage Symbols" box before clicking on the "Add Symbol" button.
Select the market indices you want to monitor by marking the tick boxes below your stock symbols. Choose how you want to view your portfolio from the drop-down menu, and click "Save." You are then directed to your portfolio page, where you are able to chart the progress of your stocks.
Access your portfolio by logging in to your Yahoo Finance account, hovering over "My Portfolios" and clicking on your portfolio's name.
