The advantages of AAA membership are numerous. You get the benefits of roadside assistance, discounts with thousands of retailers, travel planning services and insurance deals, plus extra incentives depending on your membership level. To sweeten the pot, even membership itself can be discounted. Find these offers through third-party coupon venues or a local AAA club.

Promotion Codes and Coupons

Online retail coupon generators such as Promocode and Don't Pay Full offer promotional codes good for discounted memberships with AAA. One example of a deal as of June 2015 on Don't Pay Full is a $47 membership with a free second membership and free duffle bag. On PromotionCode.org, one code waives the enrollment fee. Not all codes work in all states.

Local AAA Specials

AAA membership deals are often tied to specific regional AAA Clubs. As of June 2015, the AAA Club of the South offered a one-year membership for $66, along with a free thermos and discounts on additional memberships.

At the AAA Mid-Atlantic, you get a one-year basic membership for $52 as of June 2015, a plus membership for $99, or a one-year premier membership for $122. Each deal represents a $20 discount off the original price. Each tier comes with its own set of perks, such as one tow up to 200 miles per membership year for a premier membership.

Employee Discounts

You may be able to get AAA discounts as part of your employee benefits package. Check to see if your employer is enrolled in an AAA Corporate Membership Plan. Whether it's you or the company that foots the bill, you'll get discounted rates on membership.

Employer-linked discounts are also referred to as the AAA Group Membership Program. As of June 2015, the AAA Mid-Atlantic offers group members a waived enrollment fee, a basic membership for $50 and $5 off of first-year dues if you enroll in its Auto Renewal Program.

Additional Members

Adding extra members as associate members to your account can prove rewarding: AAA offers special rates for family members, such as adding a teenage driver with a permit for free. At the AAA Club of the South, as of 2015, a one-year membership for $66 lets you add a family member for freeand up to nine additional family members for $15.

To qualify as an eligible additional member, the person must be the primary member's spouse, another adult living at the household, or the members' children either living at home or attending school.

Gift Memberships

Another way to reap savings through an AAA membership is to buy a gift membership once you become a member. By gifting a membership to a friend for $62 with the AAA New York, current members receive a $10 coupon toward membership renewal.
