Medical Help for Low Income Adults With No Insurance in Texas

Many programs exist for Texas residents that cannot afford health-insurance coverage.

Many programs exist for residents in Texas that have low-incomes and cannot afford health insurance coverage. When you meet certain income requirements in the state of Texas, programs such as CHIP, Medicaid, the Health Insurance Premium Payment Program and the Women's Health Program may be available. You may also qualify for the federal Medicare health insurance program if you meet the program's requirements for coverage.

CHIP

If you and your family meet certain income level requirements are not currently enrolled in Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Plan or CHIP may be available. CHIP provides state residents with health coverage if your child is under the age of 19 and is currently uninsured. The income threshold you would need to meet in Texas to enroll for CHIP is up to 200% of the federal poverty level or less than $40,000 for a family of four.

Medicaid

You may qualify for the Medicaid Buy-In program if you're earning a paycheck and are disabled.

Medicaid is a state and federal health insurance program for low-income individuals and families. The program is funded by the federal government but is administered by each state. The state of Texas, like other states, sets their own guidelines for eligibility. You may be able to qualify for Medicaid if your income level meets the state's requirements. If you are earning a paycheck and are disabled, you may qualify for the Medicaid Buy-In program. The Buy-In Program requires paying a monthly premium based on income level.

Health Insurane Premium Payment Plan

If you're already enrolled in the state's Medicaid program, you could have access to the Health Insurance Premium Payment Program.

You may have access to the Health Insurance Premium Payment Program if you are already enrolled in the state's Medicaid program. When you are eligible for this program, it will pay for your private health insurance costs. This includes any co-pays and deductibles that apply if you see a doctor that has been approved for the Medicaid program. If you are not enrolled in Medicaid you will need to pay any co-pays and deductibles that apply.

Women's Heath Program

You may qualify for the state's Medicaid Women's Health Program if you are a low-income woman.

You may be able to qualify for the state's Medicaid Women's Health Program if you are a low-income woman and meet program eligibility. Once enrolled, you will be provided with family exams, birth screenings and have birth-control provided. When you receive a family exam, it may include a pap smear and various screenings for cervical and breast cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Medicare

Medicare becomes available when you reach 65.

When you reach the age of 65, the federal Medicare health insurance program is available. You may also qualify for the program if you have a disability and are under the age of 65. When you are eligible for Medicare, there are two parts that are available. One is Medicare Part A and Medicare part B. You do not need to pay a premium for Medicare Part A, which includes hospital stays. You will however, need to pay a monthly premium for Part B, which includes doctors' services.
