Car insurance is an absolute must. It is primarily used to protect against losses incurred from an auto accident. This includes bodily harm caused by the accident. If you are trying to purchase a car, dealerships will not let you drive off the lot without car insurance. But suppose you do not have a permanent address to which you can attach your car insurance. You cannot get insurance without an address, but there are options available to get around this.
Step 1
Determine which insurance coverage is mandated by your state. From there you can choose what type of coverage fits you and your budget best.
Step 2
Understand the language of insurance companies so that you understand your available options. For example, a "deductible." When you are in an accident in which you are at fault, you are required to pay a deductible. A deductible is the amount of money you are required to pay before the insurance company pays out any money. No-fault coverage pays for the damage done to your car only. If you are deemed "at fault" for an accident and you only have no-fault coverage, you are now personally responsible for the damages of the driver who was not at fault. Full coverage covers both drivers, and liability covers the other driver.
Step 3
Scour the Web for different car insurance companies and their quotes. Progressive will allow you to compare their insurance rates with their competitors and decide which option is the least expensive for you. Once you decide which insurance company best suits your needs, sign up using your current address or obtain a P.O. box. You can also ask a friend or family member if you can temporarily use his address.
Step 4
Transfer your address. Once you do obtain a permanent address, it is as simple as making a call to the insurance company and changing your address.
