The Walt Disney Co. has been a publicly traded company since 1957. Disney stock has enjoyed remarkable performance since then, enjoying strong and healthy dividends and splitting numerous times.

Initial Share Price

Disney's stock went public on Nov. 12, 1957, at $13.88 a share. Previously, the stock had been closely held by the Disney family and other partners.

Ticker Symbol

Disney's stock trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol DIS. It is one of the 30 stocks in the Dow Jones industrial average.

Splits and Adjustments

Disney stock has split seven times: in 1956, 1967, 1971, 1972, 1986, 1992 and 1998. The 1998 split was a 3-for-1 split. The splits in 1986 and 1992 were 4-for-1. The others were all 2-for-1.

Dividends

Disney traditionally pays an annual dividend in January. The most recent dividend at time of publication, in January 2014, was 86 cents a share.

In the most recent 52-week period at time of publication, from May 2013 to May 2014, the stock traded between $60 and $84 per share
