How to Write a Cancellation Letter for a Timeshare

Timeshare sales are often high-pressure, fast-moving affairs. Some people get caught up in the excitement of the sales presentation and sign a contract only to realize later that they made a mistake. U.S. law has a "cool off period" that allows people to cancel the timeshare contract without penalty. The length of this period varies by state but must be at least five days long.

Step 1

Place your name, address, purchase date and contract number at the top of the page, on the right side. Put the timeshare company's name and address one line below your contact number, on the left side of the page.

Step 2

State that you want to cancel the contract and no longer want the timeshare property. You do not need to put a reason. Request a refund of any payments you made including deposits and down payments. Sign and date it at the bottom.

Step 3

Send the notice by certified mail so you know when it arrives. Expect an acknowledgement of the cancellation and any refund within 30 days.
