Your checks contain important and private information about your bank account. They also display your contact information and may include your Social Security number. If your bank still sends you copies of voided checks, you must dispose of them properly. Otherwise, you could make yourself vulnerable to identify theft if you simply throw them in the trash.

Buy a cross-cut shredder. This type of shredder provides more security than a strip-cut shredder.
Step 2
Shred your checks one at a time. The shredder makes the checks unrecognizable and almost impossible to put back together.
Step 3
Toss your shredded checks in the trash, or take the shreds to your local recycling center.
