Changing your credit card on PayPal is a straightforward process. You simply need to log in to your account and add a new one. To make things even simpler, removing the old card is an optional step.
Part 1: Removing an Old Credit Card (Optional)
Click the link labeled "wallet" at the top of the page. This will bring you to a page that lists your current credit cards on file with PayPal.
Click the credit card that you want to remove.
Click the link that says "remove card." This will remove the current card from your file. You can repeat this to remove multiple cards if you have more than one card on file.
If you can have multiple cards on file it's possible to simply add another card without removing a card. If you want to keep the existing card on file while adding a new one, simply skip to part two of the instructions.
If you have a pending credit card transaction or you used your credit card as the backup payment method for a recent instant bank payment, you will need to wait a few days for the transaction to clear before you can remove the card.
You cannot remove a credit card if your account has a negative balance. Add funds to bring your account into the black before removing your card.
If you remove your credit card and you don't have another credit or debit card on file you won't be able to make instant payments. If you have a bank account on file you will still be able to make "eCheck" payments but these take three to four days to process.
Part 2: Adding a New Card
Click the "wallet" link at the top of the page.
Click the link titled "link a payment method."
Select "credit or debit card."
Fill in your credit card information as prompted. This will add your new credit card to your account.
