The Best and Worst States for Women to Live

There are a lot of considerations when you're seeking out the best quality of life, and (sadly) even more considerations if you're a woman. The nation's millennials are right now settling into grown-up life, considering job opportunities and housing costs as they do so. Meanwhile, women of all ages countrywide are asking the same questions, while also juggling the issue of gender equality.

In seeking out the best places for women across the country to live, the website MoveHub conducted a study to see which states are best with respect to the "gender pay gap, political representation in the state legislature, equality in education, accessibility to health insurance, reproductive rights and the number of incidents of violence against women at the hands of men." Those numbers were tabulated and results are in.

According to MoveHub, the five best states to live as a woman are:

  1. Hawaii
  2. Vermont
  3. Minnesota
  4. Illinois
  5. Maryland

The five worst states:

  1. Oklahoma
  2. Louisiana
  3. Utah
  4. Mississippi
  5. South Carolina

Unsurprisingly, the study found a direct correlation between political representation and all the other categories under consideration.
